Stage II Bidirectional Glenn Procedure

Stage II (Bidirectional Glenn Procedure)

The stage II bidirectional Glenn procedure is the second staged surgery for hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) or similar heart defects. HLHS is a congenital heart defect where parts of the left side of the heart do not fully develop.

Stage II bidirectional Glenn is usually performed from 4 to 6 months of age. The procedure connects vessels that return blood from the upper body to the lungs. The child's heart, with only one ventricle, does not have to pump all the blood.
