Patient Information and Frequently Asked Questions

At BayCare Laboratories, we’re committed to making sure that you have an excellent experience. See below for answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. You can also call us at (800) 324-7853 if you need more information.
  • How should I prepare for my visit to a BayCare Laboratories patient service center?

Check with your physician for instructions regarding any necessary test preparations. If you need to fast, don’t eat or drink anything other than water for 10 to 12 hours before your test. You may brush your teeth.

So that your test date goes smoothly:

    • You need to have a written or electronic physician order.
    • Bring your health insurance card.
    • Be prepared to provide a urine sample if your physician has ordered one.
    • Wear loose-fitting or short-sleeved clothing.

Our patient service centers are busiest from opening until 10am. Unless you’re required to fast, it’s best to schedule your visit for off-peak hours.

  • Will insurance cover my lab test?
BayCare Laboratories accepts many insurance plans. Click here to view a list of insurance plans that are currently accepted at BayCare laboratories.

Before coming in for lab work, we highly recommend that you contact your insurance company to verify that your required services will be covered. If you don’t currently have insurance, we can give you cost information in advance, so you can make an informed decision.

If you have any questions, call us at (800) 324-7853. Our team will be happy to help you.
  • Who do I contact if I have a question about my bill?
If you have any questions regarding a bill you received from BayCare Laboratories, call our billing department at (813) 443-8070.
  • How can I get my lab results?
Your lab results will be sent to your physician within two business days, with the exception of more complex specialized tests, which may take longer. You can also view your lab results by enrolling in MyBayCare, which is a secure portal that lets you access your personal health records for services that have been performed at a BayCare facility. Lab results can also be obtained by contacting your physician’s office directly.
  • I can’t come to you. Can you come to me for lab testing?

BayCare Laboratories offers Lab2Door, a convenience that brings lab services to you. Your lab specimens can be collected in the comfort of your own home or office by our highly trained team of certified phlebotomists. Your specimens are then delivered to one of our local laboratories.

    Lab2Door is ideal for:

    • Individuals who are homebound
    • Individuals who have limited transportation options
    • Individuals using wheelchairs or walkers
    • Individuals who have limited free time
    • Adults caring for someone who needs lab services

There’s a charge for this service unless your physician certifies that you meet homebound criteria as outlined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS). There’s no charge for certified homebound patients.

Call (727) 733-5036 and select option 1 for more information or to request a Lab2Door visit.

  • Do patient service centers perform COVID-19 testing or give COVID-19 vaccines?
COVID-19 services aren’t performed at our patient service centers. Please visit our COVID-19 Resource Center for more information on BayCare testing locations and services.
  • How can I contact someone at BayCare about my lab experience?
We want to hear about your experience at BayCare Laboratories. You’ll receive a survey after your visit which will give you a chance to rate your experience and provide feedback.  If you’d like to talk with a BayCare representative, call 1-800-BayCare.
