Myringoplasty is one of the clinical terms for eardrum repair. Eardrum repair is surgery to mend an eardrum tear or other eardrum damage. When the eardrum has an opening or is damaged, an individual is susceptible to hearing problems and ear infections. The eardrum can be repaired by using an individual's own tissue taken from a muscle sheath or vein (called tympanoplasty) or by using a special paper and gel to close the opening (myringoplasty). Ear repair surgery can involve the repair, removal or replacement of small bones in the middle ear (ossiculoplasty).
