MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of the pelvis does not use X-ray radiation. It instead uses a powerful magnetic system to make images of the pelvic area including the bladder and lymph nodes. In males, the test includes pictures of the prostate and reproductive organs. In females, the test includes the reproductive organs. It can create dozens or sometimes hundreds of images in a short time.
A pelvis MRI can help to evaluate feminine problems of vaginal bleeding, hip pain, a pelvic mass, lower abdominal pain and endometriosis (growths outside the uterus on other body parts). In males, the test can help to evaluate swelling and lumps in the scrotum, an undescended testicle, pelvic or lower abdominal pain, urination problems and hip pain.
