Pediatric Heart Surgery
St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital has one of the largest congenital heart surgery programs in Florida. Our team works in partnership with UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, one of the nation’s top-ranking pediatric heart service providers. Our expert pediatric heart surgeons live locally and work exclusively at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. They are part of the larger group of surgeons at UPMC who can also provide support locally when needed. Our combined expertise has led to surgical results which exceed the national benchmarks as reported by The Society of Thoracic Surgeon (STS). Our team participates in the STS National Database and voluntarily reports all surgical outcomes which are available to the public on the STS website. We believe that low mortality and complication rates and short length of stay are the foundations of our program’s quality.
Expert Team, Expert Care
We treat a multitude of mild to complex heart conditions. Our multidisciplinary team includes board-certified pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric cardiac intensivists and nurses, along with many others. Members of our team meet routinely for a comprehensive care conference to discuss each surgical patient and determine the best personalized plan of care needed before, during and after surgery.
Pediatric cardiac anesthesia is an integral part of our program. Each member of our team is a board-certified anesthesiologist with subspecialty training in pediatric and cardiac anesthesia.
Specialized Conditions We Treat
At St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, we surgically manage all types of congenital and acquired heart defects from mild to complex conditions. This includes the primary repair and treatment of complex congenital heart defects in children from newborns through adulthood.
