    • Dr. Stephen M. Butler is board certified in general surgery. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He continued there, completing a 5 year surgical residency and serving as Chief Resident through St. Luke’s Hospital. He completed a fellowship in endoscopy and laparoscopy at Mt. Sinai Hospital of the Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Butler has over 20 years of experience in general surgery. He is the former Chief of Medical Staff and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at South Florida Baptist Hospital (SFBH), where he was also instrumental in the development of their GI Endoscopy Center, Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery programs, and the design of the current SFBH operating rooms. He is also a past Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Informaticist for the EMR Implementation program at Lakeland Regional Hospital. Dr. Butler’s clinical interests include breast, gastrointestinal and thyroid surgery. He has extensive experience in endoscopic procedures including EGD, ERCP, papillotomy, stone extraction, stenting, polypectomy, and laparoscopic procedures that includes cholecystectomy, hernia colon resection, small bowel resection, and colostomy. Dr. Butler also performs vascular surgery including carotid endarterectomies, endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysms, and above-the-knee femoral popliteal bypass. He also provides comprehensive care of female breast issues including fibrocystic disease/cancer, offering lumpectomy, mastectomy and associated surgical procedures. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Florida Medical Association.
