John GantnerJohn J. Gantner is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for BayCare, a leading, not-for-profit health care system that connects individuals and families to a wide range of services at 14 hospitals and hundreds of other convenient locations throughout the Tampa Bay and central Florida regions. BayCare’s inpatient and outpatient services include acute care, primary care, imaging, laboratory, behavioral health, home care, and wellness.

Gantner joined BayCare in January 2014 and has more than 38 years of experience in health care. He oversees financial management for BayCare’s divisions and plays a key leadership role in guiding the health system’s preparations for its shift toward clinical integration and a new, population health model of care under health care reform. 

Before BayCare, Gantner was executive vice president for finance and partner company operations at Meridian Health System, an integrated health system in New Jersey. At Meridian, Gantner oversaw all traditional fiscal activities, including accounting, finance, treasury, budget, reimbursement and patient accounting/access. He also had operating responsibility for the portfolio of 26 partner companies with $300 million in revenue. Gantner had a leadership role in Meridian’s reform-related strategies and programs, centered on population health management, clinical integration and expense reduction.

Gantner spent 14 years at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where his last position was executive vice president and treasurer. He also served as a partner with Ernst & Young’s New Jersey health care practice and was heavily involved with strategic planning and capital transactions for clients that included hospitals, health maintenance organizations and physicians.

Gantner received both his bachelor’s degree in Finance and Management and his Master of Business Administration from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Managerial Accountant. He was named CFO of the Year in 2012 by a leading business journal in New Jersey. Gantner was a board member for several organizations, including QualCare, Inc., Children’s Specialized Hospital, Robert Wood Johnson University at Hamilton and the State Theatre of New Jersey. He also was an executive order appointee to New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman’s task force on affordability and accessibility of health care.
