Advanced Cardiac Catheterization Lab

The advanced catheterization lab at BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel operates as a dual lab, performing both cardiac catheterization procedures and interventional radiology procedures. Our experienced, highly trained team provides comprehensive, compassionate care.

Heart and Vascular Catheterization Procedures

Cardiac catheterizations give your doctor a greater understanding of your cardiovascular system and can be used for diagnosis or to treat a condition. During the procedure, an angioplasty or stent placement may also be performed to reopen or keep the artery opened. We use state-of-the-art equipment and technology to ensure the highest standard of care.

Your health, safety and peace of mind are always our top priorities. We will spend time to help you understand your upcoming procedure, discuss any lifestyle changes necessary to remain healthy and answer any questions you may have. You will receive a packet before your procedure, which includes information about diet, exercise and tobacco cessation. Within 24 hours of discharge, our nurses will call you to see how you’re doing and answer any additional questions or concerns you may have.

Trans-radial Approach

Most cardiac catheterization procedures at BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel use the trans-radial access approach, meaning the catheter is inserted through the wrist instead of the groin. This method can reduce the risk of major bleeding complications, minimize pain and shorten recovery time.

Dual Cardiac Cath Lab

Equipped with the latest systems available, the cardiovascular catheterization lab is split with interventional radiology to allow our expert team of doctors, nurses, technicians and team members to provide you with extraordinary care. The single-plane catheterization lab is the primary lab for heart and vascular services, with one camera rotating around the patient, giving the cardiologist a clear view of the vessels he or she is focusing on. In the adjacent suite, our bi-plane lab utilizes the newest, most robust imaging and vital monitoring systems in the BayCare network. The two cameras allow interventional radiologists to look at two different angles at the same time to provide the very best care.
