Open-Heart Surgery

Patients undergoing open-heart procedures are cared for and receive continuous monitoring throughout the initial recovery phase in our 78-bed cardiac critical care units or the 26-bed cardiovascular intensive care unit. Our open-heart surgery program has consistently received the prestigious 3-star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, representing the highest level of achievement.

Adult Congenital Heart Center 

The Congenital Heart Program at BayCare St. Joseph's Hospital specializes in caring for patients of all ages, including pediatric patients, who have congenital heart disease. Headquartered at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Tampa Bay Adult Congenital Heart Center is a fully accredited Comprehensive Care Center through the Adult Congenital Heart Association.

  • Where is the Heart and Vascular Institute at BayCare St Joseph’s Hospital located?
    The Heart and Vascular Institute is located above one of Florida’s busiest emergency departments, BayCare St. Joseph’s Hospital, for immediate patient access. Parking is available behind the hospital near the emergency department. To check in or wait for a patient, follow signs to the Heart and Vascular Institute entrance next to the emergency department entrance.  If you arrive at the front of the hospital, check in at the front desk for directions to the C elevator, 2nd floor and follow signs to the Heart and Vascular Institute waiting room. 
  • What are signs that I should see a heart or vascular specialist? 
    Your primary care or family physician can help assess your family history, risk factors and any symptoms you may have. If you're experiencing heart-related issues or symptoms, it's important to be referred to a specialist. For more details on these symptoms and risk factors, go to our heart disease page. If you experience chest pain along with pain in the arm, jaw or below the breastbone, accompanied by sweating, nausea or severe shortness of breath, you might be having a heart attack. Call 911 immediately.
  • What insurance plans do you accept?
