Frequently Asked Questions
-
When should my child see a neurologist?
You know your child best. Talk to your primary care provider about a referral to a neurologist if your child is having any unusual symptoms that could indicate a neurological condition. Common signs include seizures, headaches, changes in motor skills and developmental delays.
-
What services do you provide for ADHD?
Care for ADHD often overlaps among neurology, psychiatry, psychology and neuropsychology providers, in addition to your pediatrician. For families seeking care, it can be challenging to know which type of specialist to see.
Our pediatric neurologists can diagnose and help manage ADHD using medications (psychiatrists and pediatricians can also prescribe medications). We may perform or refer you to another specialist for a neuropsychological evaluation to assess your child for dyslexia and other learning differences. For more complex cases, we may refer your child to a psychiatrist for ongoing management.
-
Do you treat autism?
Our neurologists can diagnose autism, treat certain symptoms and help guide educational accommodations. However, we don't perform the specialized diagnostic evaluations required by insurance to authorize the full range of services. For these evaluations, your child will need to see a developmental psychologist.
