BayCare Alliant Hospital has earned the Gold Seal of Approval® for Disease-Specific Care in Respiratory Failure Certification from The Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest health care accrediting organization.

Located in Dunedin, Florida, BayCare Alliant Hospital is a 48-bed specialty acute care facility that provides extended hospital services to patients who need advanced care and more time to recover from serious medical conditions. Its specialized model of focused critical care and comprehensive rehabilitation therapies supports patients with complex medical or respiratory conditions who are not yet ready for discharge or transition to a rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility.

By achieving this prestigious certification, the hospital has demonstrated its commitment to using best practices to enhance safety and quality for its patients, team members and community. Maya Perez, president of BayCare Alliant Hospital, shared her pride in the team’s achievement.

“It is truly a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated and passionate team, all committed to ensuring high-quality patient care,” said Perez. “Our interdisciplinary team and physicians are deeply invested in fostering a culture where the patient is always at the center of our focus. We recognize that hospital stays can often be unexpected and challenging for our patients and their families. This understanding drives our unwavering commitment to continuously improve our care model and to consistently demonstrate compassion in every interaction. I am incredibly proud of the strides we have made together and excited for the continued progress we will achieve.”

To achieve the certification, BayCare Alliant Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review by The Joint Commission. During the evaluation, a team of reviewers assessed the hospital’s compliance with certification standards including clinical care delivery, overall program management, initial and ongoing education for physicians and clinicians, and patient and family engagement. Reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“Disease-Specific Care in Respiratory Failure Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” said Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer at The Joint Commission. “We commend BayCare Alliant Hospital for using The Joint Commission certification process to reduce variation in clinical processes and strengthen its clinical program to drive safer, higher quality and more compassionate care for individuals served.”

The certification was effective Nov. 7, 2025, and is valid two years. Recertification requires continuous performance measurement and improvement activities to ensure sustained excellence and accountability over time.
