Treating Pediatric Cancer
Childhood cancer can be treated in a variety of ways. Our team collaborates with a large group of pediatric sub-specialists to deliver the best approach to curing cancer. Treatment can include:
Chemotherapy (chemo) is one of the most common treatments for cancer. It uses medicines to kill cancer cells. It’s common for cancer to be treated with more than one medicine at a time. Chemotherapy can be used alone for treatment or in combination with other treatments, like surgery and radiation therapy.
Immunotherapy treats cancer by boosting the function of the body’s own immune system to fight cancer cells. It can also help control side effects from other cancer treatments.
Radiation Therapy is used to target tumors in specific locations. It uses high energy X-rays to shrink tumors and kill cancer cells. Radiation therapy can be used alone or in combination with other treatments, such as surgery and chemotherapy.
Surgery can be used to diagnose, stage and treat cancer. Our pediatric surgeons provide specialized pediatric surgical care for children with benign and malignant tumors. It may be combined with other therapies and procedures as part of a comprehensive care plan.
