Economic Impact

BayCare, formed in 1997 by a core group of local hospitals, is a leading not-for-profit health care system that connects individuals and families to a wide range of services. BayCare operates 16 hospitals and hundreds of other convenient locations in West Central Florida, primarily in four counties: Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco and Polk. BayCare provides inpatient and outpatient services including acute care, primary care, urgent care, imaging, laboratory, behavioral health, home care and wellness.

As a leading health system, BayCare is a vibrant economic engine in the West Central Florida region. To show BayCare's 2023 economic impact in the state of Florida, the Washington Economics Group (WEG), a Miami-based economics consulting firm, conducted an analysis of the organization's operating and capital expenditures, patient care, community benefit, contributions to taxes, employment and salaries. This study estimates the economic benefits of BayCare's operations and how they impact local and state economies.
