Pediatric Oncology

At the Bayless Cancer Institute, we provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient pediatric cancer care in one convenient location. A coordinated team provides the imaging, treatment and support services your child needs. Team members also see patients for follow-up visits at BayCare locations throughout the region.

Our pediatric oncologists and cancer specialists work together to deliver treatment, including chemotherapy and other cancer medications, radiation therapy and surgery. You and your child have access to:

• Inpatient unit with large, colorful, child-friendly rooms and a sleeping area for one caregiver
• Nearby Ronald McDonald House, where families can rest, work, eat, do laundry and recharge during their child’s treatment
• Specialized treatment areas with coordinated care for infusion therapy, chemotherapy and procedures

Advancements in pediatric cancer treatment help children survive and thrive more than ever before. BayCare offers a wide range of therapies for children’s leukemia, brain cancer and other cancers—and the expertise to use them effectively. Whether your child’s treatment plan calls for a new medication, stem-cell therapy or a surgical procedure, you can typically receive that care here, close to home.

As a Children’s Oncology Group member institution, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital has access to and participates in research through more than one hundred clinical trials. That means children in our care have access to newer ways to fight cancer. We're using immunotherapies and new drug discoveries to create innovative treatment options.

For children with cancer affecting the brain or spine, our Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program uses a precision medicine approach. We use genetics, advanced 3-D imaging and tumor profiling to create an individualized plan for each child. 

Our team works with colleagues across different specialties to treat your child, addressing both the illness and treatment effects. We manage rare brain and spinal tumors with the latest chemotherapies, targeted therapies, surgery and radiation treatments. You and your child get the support you need with clear communication and compassion at every stage.

If you're traveling to Tampa for your child’s care, the Ronald McDonald House offers a comfortable home environment. Located on our campus, the house has everything you need for a short or extended stay.

Each room features a private bathroom. While here, you can take advantage of the shared kitchen, dining room, study, lounge, laundry facilities and fitness center. Siblings can stay busy in the welcoming playroom.

The pediatric oncology program at BayCare is the largest in the area, and our team has expertise across all subspecialty areas. We attract and retain providers with exceptional knowledge and clinical skills in all aspects of children’s cancer treatment: medical, surgical, emotional and spiritual.

Our multidisciplinary team of doctors includes pediatric medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, neuro-oncologists, surgeons and other pediatric specialists. Together, they have decades of experience helping children’s cancer treatment evolve. They deliver compassionate, seamless care along with advanced practice providers, nurses, technologists, dietitians, therapists, social workers, Child Life Specialists and chaplains who support people of all faiths.
