Why Choose Us?
What Is the BayCare Kids Comprehensive Aerodigestive Center?
Children who have complex medical needs get expert care at the Comprehensive Aerodigestive Center. Our team-based approach helps identify conditions quickly, leading to treatment plans that reduce anesthesia exposure, testing, hospitalizations and costs. We provide a personalized, family-centered patient experience.
Triple Endoscopy
All procedures are performed at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. During the patient's evaluation, further testing, such as labs, imaging or swallowing assessments, may be required. If multiple procedures are needed, then a triple scope method will be used to reduce the number. Triple scope means that ENT, gastroenterology and pulmonary specialists are all present during the procedure, collaborating and observing each other’s portion of the evaluation. This helps to create a comprehensive care plan for the patient. Using a triple scope process is important because the evaluation procedures can be performed under one anesthesia versus three separate ones, meaning limited exposure to anesthesia. We have the longest established triple scope program in Florida, dating back to 2016.
How to Become a Patient
There are two ways in which your child can become a patient.
Self-Referral:
Patients can call the clinical navigator directly to give them necessary information and to be routed to the appropriate specialists' offices to establish care. Appointments are coordinated by the scheduling team in individual offices, and all care is coordinated by the clinical navigator. Physician Referral:
Patients can ask their primary care physician for a referral to see a specialist at the center. There's no need for a referral unless your insurance company requests it. All care is coordinated by the clinical navigator.
