Why Choose Us

The BayCare Psychiatry Residency Program is a 4-year General Psychiatry program based out of Morton Plant North Bay Recovery Center in Pasco County, Florida. There will be six resident positions per year. BayCare is a premier not-for-profit health system in the Tampa Bay area that consists of 15 hospitals and numerous outpatient clinics.

Our program aims to graduate well-rounded, community psychiatrists who are excellent clinicians, technically skilled in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy, and can demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviors necessary to enter autonomous practice.

As a new program, there will be many opportunities for innovation. We encourage our residents to think outside the box when it comes to medical education, and with our program leadership, we welcome new ideas for program design, structure and continuous improvement.

BayCare has many career opportunities available and we want our residents to continue practicing in the Tampa Bay area whether it’s after residency or coming back after a fellowship.

Curriculum

Each year consists of 13 four-week block rotations. Starting in the second year of training, all residents are assigned to a combined continuity and Psychotherapy clinic within the BayCare Health System, where they spend a half-day each week.

Didactic Curriculum

Residents will have protected time every Thursday afternoon from noon to 4 pm for didactics. The first hour will be free time to eat lunch, with all meals provided by BayCare. The lecture topics for our PGY1 class are listed below.

Also listed are the six Case Conference topics that each of the residents will be assigned at the beginning of the year. Each resident will choose a faculty member to work with, and present on the assigned topic. Each didactic day will be interactive, including one or more lectures and time for discussion.

The lectures will take place at the North Bay Recovery Center in our GME conference room. The In-Training Exam will be scheduled during didactics so that residents do not miss time during their regular schedule.
