Choosing the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program at BayCare’s St. Joseph’s Hospital means training in a premier, high-acuity, inclusive environment designed to build the foundation for a successful career in cardiology. Here, Fellows lead rather than observe, gaining clinical autonomy and hands-on experience in a high-volume, rapidly evolving field. Training includes advanced cardiac imaging, advanced heart failure and mechanical circulatory support with active management of LVAD, ECMO and Impella systems, complex interventional cardiology including structural heart and valve care, electrophysiology and adult congenital cardiology through our accredited Comprehensive Care Center.

Our ACGME-accredited cardiovascular disease fellowship curriculum offers a structured, progressive training experience that prepares Fellows for independent practice and advanced cardiovascular careers. Fellows rotate through core clinical areas, gain hands-on procedural experience and participate in continuity clinic, multidisciplinary care, didactics, evidence-based education, scholarly activity and quality improvement. With dedicated faculty mentorship and exposure to diverse patient populations, the curriculum builds clinical knowledge, judgment and confidence needed to excel in cardiovascular medicine.

The primary didactic curriculum comprises a comprehensive, daily one-hour review covering both fundamental and advanced aspects of cardiovascular disease over a three-year cycle. This curriculum integrates multidisciplinary sessions, including core cardiovascular lectures, weekly one-hour catheterization/interventional and structural heart conferences, and weekly one-hour echocardiogram and imaging conference. The schedule includes bi-monthly one-hour cardiology journal clubs and monthly one-hour morbidity, mortality and quality assurance conferences. Fellows participate in a monthly one-hour Grand Round. All sessions are facilitated by one or more faculty members to provide mentorship, and attendance is formally documented via New Innovations.
