Internal Medicine at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital

Overview

The Morton Plant North Bay Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program is a community-care focused training program that will provide much needed services to families in the Tampa Bay area. BayCare is the leading, not-for-profit health system in West Central Florida. Our system consists of 16 hospitals, BayCare Medical Group, one of the regions largest multi-specialty physician practices, BayCare Urgent Care, and a broad network of ambulatory services including imaging, labs, surgical centers and home health care.

Our program is a comprehensive 3-year program located at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in Pasco County, Florida. There are ten resident positions per year. Training in an intimate hospital setting in New Port Richey offers a unique advantage; residents benefit from a close-knit community where they receive personalized mentorship and gain hands-on experience with a diverse patient population. This environment fosters strong relationships with attending physicians, encourages collaboration, and allows for a more focused and in-depth clinical education. The inpatient curriculum is based on the blueprint of ABIM developed by Decker curriculum or Weekly curriculum that provides all reading materials one week before didactics. The outpatient curriculum is the John Hopkins ambulatory curriculum. Both curriculums encourage residents to engage in active learning to maximize retention and clinical application.

We believe that by empowering our residents to be active participants in shaping their educational experience, we can create a dynamic, adaptive program that remains at the forefront of medical training excellence.

Our program aims to graduate well-rounded internal medicine physicians who can demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to enter independent practice. At BayCare, we believe in the train to retain model. BayCare has many career opportunities available, and we want our residents to continue practicing in the Tampa Bay area, whether it is after residency or coming back after fellowship.

We are deeply committed to resident wellness, as we believe that taking care of ourselves is essential to providing the best care for our patients. Our program supports this by offering education and resources on wellness through social events, conferences, online materials, and incentive programs.
