“I am tremendously grateful to have matched at USF for sports medicine! When applying to sports medicine fellowships I was looking for broad sports coverage, faculty passionate about teaching, and training that would prepare me for any sports medicine setting—all attributes of the USF sports medicine program. It was also great to hear from previous fellows who reiterated the faculty’s passion for teaching and the program’s impressive breadth of sports coverage.”
About Dr. Hanson:
Dr. Hanson grew up in Duluth, Minnesota. He was motivated to pursue medicine by his parents who worked in the medical field as a physical therapist and paramedic. He developed a passion for sports medicine in medical school during his sports medicine electives and opportunity to cover MMA events. His interest further developed during his residency at the University of Florida with the opportunity to cover multiple collegiate sports events and act as the team doctor for local high school football teams. In his free time, he enjoys watching football, basketball, and hockey and playing soccer, ultimate frisbee, pickleball, and sand volleyball.

In His Own Words:
"I have been interested in the USF-MPM Sports Medicine program since graduating college. Being a sports medicine physician was always the dream for me, and at that time, I knew USF had a great program. Bolstered since then by the "Champa Bay" success, sports have become a centerpiece in the city of Tampa, Florida. This program is affiliated with a division one university, professional football team and two baseball teams, along with robust local high school athletics and distance marathons, offering plenty of coverage experience at a wide range of athlete development and sport. Moreover, the backing of a strong academic institution with longstanding presence and reliability in the area creates a credible curriculum with excellent community preceptors."
