Meet Millie: BayCare’s Four-Legged Team Member Providing Comfort and Connection

June 04, 2025

At BayCare, support for team members comes in many forms—but perhaps none are as uniquely comforting as Millie.

A two-year-old beagle rescued from Hurricane Milton and trained through the Paws and Stripes program, Millie now serves as the first-ever therapy dog dedicated to BayCare’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP). She’s more than a comforting presence—she’s part of the team.

“Millie is just like any other team member—she has a calendar, an email address, a badge… and everyone knows who she is,” said Jennifer Stitik, Millie’s handler and a BayCare EAP counselor. “When team members see Millie, their whole demeanor changes.”

BayCare’s EAP offers free, confidential mental health counseling for team members and their families, including six sessions per year and help connecting with therapists. But their impact extends far beyond BayCare’s walls— supporting more than 40 external organizations, including first responders, colleges, and local businesses.

“We respond to a variety of critical incidents—losses, workplace violence, car accidents, even community trauma,” said Dr. Lisa Moser, director of BayCare’s EAP. “Millie accompanies us during those visits. Just her presence helps people connect, feel safe, and open up.”

As Millie’s calendar fills with hospital visits, community outreach, and healing moments, her impact is clear.

“She’s not just a dog,” Dr. Moser said. “She’s a member of our team—and part of the healing.”
