St. Anthony’s Triathlon Announces 2017 Pro Athlete Start List

One of the longest running triathlons will also serve as USAT National Championship qualifier

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 22, 2017) – St. Anthony’s Triathlon has announced the initial list of Pro athletes that will toe the line at this year’s race, to be held on April 30th, 2017. The 34th annual St. Anthony’s Triathlon will host approximately 3,000 athlete participants over the course of the weekend, and has also been selected by the USA Triathlon (USAT) as a 2017 Regional Championship Race. 

The list of female professional triathletes includes: Ashley Clifford (Florida), Kaitlin Donner (Florida), Helle Frederiksen (Florida), Ericka Hachmeister (New York), Alicia Kaye (Florida), Heather Lendway (Minnesota), Rebecca Martz (West Virginia), and Jillian Petersen (Washington). Returning pro competitor Alicia Kaye won the St. Anthony’s Triathlon in 2015, and was runner-up in the race last year. 

On the men’s field, professional triathletes include: Richard Border (Florida), Nicholas Chase (Florida), Robbie Deckard (Indiana), Brian Fleischmann (Colorado), Will Jurkowski (Colorado), Eric Limkemann (Virginia), Jackson Laundry (Canada), Lawrence Merrill (New York), Andrew Mueller (Indiana), Tim O’Donnell (Colorado), Michael Poole (Florida), John Rasmussen (Canada), Tim Russell (Vermont), Rodolphe Von Berg (Colorado), Jason West (Colorado), Timothy Winslow (Colorado), Matthew Wisthoff (North Carolina), and Andrew Yoder (Pennsylvania). Cam Dye was the St. Anthony’s Triathlon winner in both 2015 and 2016.

Professionals will compete for a $56,000 prize purse. Because the event is a USAT Regional Championship event, registered USAT athletes will be able to qualify at the St. Anthony’s Triathlon for the 2017 Olympic-Distance National Championships in Omaha, Neb., to be held on Aug. 12, 2017. In order to qualify for the National Championships, competitors must finish in the top 33 percent or top five (whichever is greater) competitors per their respective age groups. 

“We have a tremendous group of Pro triathletes competing in this year’s event,” said Susan Daniels, race director for St. Anthony’s Triathlon. “We are honored to have such a high level of athletes come to St. Petersburg for great competition on a fast course.”

The St. Anthony’s Sports and Fitness Expo will take place from April 28-30, with the kids’ Meek & Mighty Triathlon occurring on April 29, and the main Triathlon, for both Olympic and Sprint distance races, running on April 30.
