According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the prevalence of mental and substance use disorders is high. Nearly 1 out of every 5 adults in the United States has a mental illness, such as depression, anxiety disorders, or schizophrenia, and approximately 22 million have been classified with substance dependence or abuse.
Recovery Month spreads the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can and do recover.
