Along with our expert heart attack, stroke and emergency care, the radiology department is located within the ER. This gives us easy access to the equipment and technologies needed to assess, diagnose and treat you.

While no one wants to spend time in an emergency room, we are committed to making patients and families as comfortable as possible by offering the following features:

  • TVs and phones in every treatment room
  • TV viewing areas in the main waiting room
  • Dedicated children's waiting area
  • A separate room for families to meet privately with medical staff

Pediatric Emergency Services

Our dedicated pediatric emergency center (ER) was designed with your child’s health and well-being in mind. Your medical team has specialized pediatric training and is led by a fellowship trained, dual board-certified pediatric emergency/medicine emergency medicine physician. Here, you can expect compassionate, family-centered care.

Our specialized resources include:

  • Nurses who are all pediatric advanced life support certified (PALS)
  • Child-size, care-specialized tools and equipment in various sizes 
  • We offer a kid-friendly environment with a coastal theme. The waiting area and patient rooms provide a calming atmosphere for patients and their families.
  • Child Life Specialists who are trained professionals specializing in child development. They help explain diagnoses and procedures and use play techniques to distract and calm our young patients, their siblings and sometimes their parents.
  • Kid-friendly treatment. When possible, we use drug-free methods of pain relief and perform procedures without using needles. Our team is trained to talk to kids like they’re kids to help them feel safe and comforted, including having special sensory tools available.
  • An inpatient pediatric unit for children who need to be admitted to the hospital.
  • Specialized support and resources that cater to the unique medical needs of children, combined with an extensive support system through St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. Pediatric specialists at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital are also available for consultation on complex cases if necessary. 

Our pediatric emergency center is capable of treating any emergency but should a child require additional specialized treatment we can arrange for transfer to BayCare’s St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa.
