Brandon May, MBA  

President, BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel

Brandon May was appointed interim president of Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in September 2024. He has served as president of Morton Plant North Bay Hospital since June 2019 and continues in that role.

May has extensive experience in the operation and financial management of health care organizations. Prior to coming to BayCare, May served as the chief executive officer of Doctors Hospital of Manteca in Manteca, California, which is part of Tenet Healthcare Corporation based in Dallas. During his tenure with Tenet, he held a variety of leadership positions within three key growth markets. May is familiar with West and Central Florida as he was previously CFO at Bartow Regional Medical Center, now a BayCare hospital.

Prior to his professional career, May received his Master’s in Business Administration and his Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. While there, he competed in intercollegiate athletics as a hurdler/sprinter for the Men’s Track and Field Team.

May is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has been active in local North Tampa chambers of commerce, currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Pasco Economic Development Council and is a Board Trustee of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay Foundation.

May is an outdoor enthusiast and is married with two children.


Bethany Wells, MSN

Bethany Wells, MSN

Director of Patient Services, BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel

Bethany Wells was appointed the first director of patient services for BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel in January 2022. She previously served as the director of patient services for St. Joseph’s Hospital-North.

Ms. Wells began her health care career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in 2000 as a patient care technician, advancing to registered nurse and charge nurse. In 2009, she relocated to St. Joseph’s Hospital-North as the education specialist and helped open the facility and onboard the team. Ms. Wells progressed to nurse manager prior to becoming the director of patient services in 2017.

She earned a Master of Science in nursing with a specialization in nursing leadership and administration from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2021. Ms. Wells received her Bachelor of Science in health care management from Saint Leo University in St. Leo, Florida, in 2016, and her Associate of Science in nursing from Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida, in 2001.

She’s a certified nurse manager and leader and a registered nurse in the state of Florida.


William Sedey, MHA

William Sedey, MHA

Director of Operations, BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel

William Sedey was appointed the first director of operations for BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel in November 2021. He previously served as the manager of surgical services business operations for Mease Countryside and Mease Dunedin hospitals.

Mr. Sedey began his career with BayCare’s managed care team in 2002 while earning his Master of Science in health care administration from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. In 2006, he joined the Six Sigma performance improvement department. After three years in performance improvement, Mr. Sedey moved to his role in surgical services business operations. During his tenure, he oversaw the operational end of surgical services including medical devices, supply inventory, construction and renovation projects and capital acquisitions, and served as the lead for various regional committees and projects.

Mr. Sedey is a Leadership Pinellas alumnus and has served on both Leadership Pinellas and Safety Harbor Chamber of Commerce Boards of Directors.


Mark Vaaler

Mark Vaaler, MD

Chief Medical Officer, BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel

Mark Vaaler, MD, was appointed the first chief medical officer of BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel in June 2022. He previously served as vice president and chief medical officer for St. Joseph’s Hospital-North, St. Joseph’s Hospital-South, South Florida Baptist Hospital and Bartow Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Vaaler joined St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1986, before BayCare was founded. He started as a practicing physician until 2002, when he switched to an administrative role. 

This is not the first time Dr. Vaaler has been part of a hospital’s opening leadership team. He was the chief medical officer when BayCare opened St. Joseph’s Hospital-North in 2010 and St. Joseph’s Hospital-South in 2015. 

Dr. Vaaler earned his undergraduate degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and attended medical school at the University of Minnesota. He completed his internal medicine residency in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and his medical training with a Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at the University of South Florida.
