Our comprehensive team includes 24-hour respiratory services, critical care trained nurses, rehabilitation, nutrition, case management and pharmacy. BayCare Alliant’s state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is equipped with eCare, allowing doctors to monitor patients around-the-clock. Physicians round daily and participate in interdisciplinary team rounds.

You will meet with a team member within 24 hours of admission to establish an individualized plan of care and address expectations. Our History
When BayCare Health System identified a need in our community for patients requiring hospital-level care for an extended period, it began forming a plan to build a specialty acute care hospital in north Pinellas County.

What is a specialty acute care hospital?A specialty acute care hospital (sometimes called long-term acute care, or LTACH) treats adult patients (ages 18 years and older) with complex medical or respiratory illnesses who require intensive, around-the-clock care for an extended period.

When did BayCare Alliant Hospital start treating patients?BayCare Alliant Hospital was created after BayCare identified a need in the community for patients requiring hospital-level care for an extended period. BayCare Alliant opened its doors on March 8, 2008.

Is specialty acute the correct level of care?
Answering "yes" to one or more of these questions may qualify a patient for admission:
- Is the patient in the intensive care unit?
- Is the patient dependent on a ventilator?
- Does the patient have multiple system failure?
- Is the patient in need of intensive wound care?
- Is the patient medically unstable for transfer to lower level of care, such as a nursing home or rehabilitation hospital?
- Is the patient's rehabilitation compromised by an acute medical issue?

How long should I expect to be a patient?The average length of stay is expected to be at least 25 days, but everyone has unique needs. Your length of stay will be discussed with you and your loved ones.

What is the difference between BayCare Alliant and other specialty hospitals in our area?One of the many benefits of BayCare Alliant is that patients can receive immediate, acute care intervention at Mease Dunedin Hospital without ever leaving the building. After a diagnostic test, surgery, or treatment, the patient returns to their familiar room at BayCare Alliant. Unlike freestanding specialty hospitals, BayCare Alliant also has onsite doctor availability 24/7 through Mease Dunedin Hospital's emergency department.
