What is a nurse navigator?At St. Joseph’s Hospital, our dedicated nurse navigators specialize in either orthopedic or spine care, depending on your needs. These specially trained nurses guide and support you and your family throughout your entire journey, from your first appointment to recovery at home. You’ll work with the same navigator so that you always have a familiar face who understands your care plan, answers your questions and helps coordinate every step. We want to make your experience as smooth, comfortable and stress-free as possible.

What can I expect during my total joint replacement surgery?
We want you to feel fully prepared and confident about your joint replacement surgery, so we encourage you to attend our in-person Total Joint Replacement Class before your procedure. This presentation is designed to help you prepare for every stage of the joint replacement process. Your orthopedic team will work with you to schedule the class at a time that fits your needs. We’ll walk you through everything you need to know before, during and after surgery including:
- How to prepare for surgery
- What to expect during your hospital stay
- What to expect on the day of your procedure
- Tips for a smooth and successful recovery
- How to prepare your home for when you return
- Planning for discharge
If you can’t attend in person, we also offer a Virtual Total Joint Replacement Class, so you can access the information when it’s convenient for you.
