Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Program

At the Bayless Cancer Institute at St. Joseph’s Children's Hospital, we believe in holistic, comprehensive care. We personalize each child’s treatment to offer the best outcomes and apply the latest medical technology available. All of our pediatric hematology-oncology services are located on the same campus for the convenience of our patients and their families.

Hematology-Oncology Clinic: Our BayCare Medical Group Pediatric Hematology-Oncology physicians are board certified in hematology-oncology and specialize in all hematologic and malignant disorders and diseases that affect infants, children, adolescents and young adults. Clinic services are offered at several locations throughout West Central Florida. 

Center for Bleeding and Clotting Disorders: Our Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center  (HTC) evaluates and treats a variety of blood disorders in patients of all ages.

Inpatient Unit: Our child-friendly inpatient unit offers large, colorful rooms equipped with a sleeping area for one parent during the child’s hospitalization. The unit’s team includes board certified pediatric hematology-oncology physicians, a patient care leader who offers education to patients and families and specially trained pediatric nurses who provide around-the-clock care. Our inpatient chemotherapy program is also staffed with pediatric oncology credentialed nurses. Our top-notch pediatric intensive care unit is available, when needed, and is staffed with board-certified pediatric intensivist physicians.

Chemotherapy: Our Infusion Center offers inpatient and outpatient infusion services. The center is always staffed with chemotherapy - credentialed pediatric oncology nurses.

Radiation Therapy: We have a full-time pediatric radiation oncologist and a team of pediatric radiation therapists to care for your child. We use state-of-the-art medical technology to deliver the appropriate treatment.

Neuro-Oncology: We offer neuro-oncology services to infants, children, teens and young adults who have complex brain and spinal cord tumors. We provide personalized care based on innovative new therapies including modern chemotherapeutic agents and targeted drugs, to provide optimal treatment as we work toward cures for these tumors. Our active long-term follow-up effort helps identify and treat the late side effects of disease in childhood brain tumors.

Neurosurgery: Our pediatric neurosurgery team works closely with our pediatric cancer team to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.

Surgery: Depending on the type of cancer that a child has, surgery may be a necessary part of their treatment. We have a full team of board-certified pediatric general surgeons who work in collaboration with our cancer specialists to determine the best course of care for each patient.

Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center: We offer specialized care for children and young adults with sickle cell anemia, including a comprehensive clinic where patients are evaluated and treated by multiple specialists at one time, including physicians, nurses, dietitians and social workers. During patient visits, we perform ECHO and transcranial Doppler ultrasound testing, 

Day Hospital: The day hospital offers inpatient and outpatient services including infusion therapy, and anesthesia and sedation services for a variety of procedures and testing. It’s staffed by a highly specialized team including a board-certified intensivist and anesthesiologist.

On-Site Testing and Imaging: We offer all the necessary tests to aid in diagnosis, staging and treating childhood cancers including the latest imaging technologies, like pediatric PET/CT scans. Our on-site laboratory and imaging center allow us to provide test results quickly.

Long-Term Late Effects Clinic: This clinic offers tools and education to provide a healthier future for cancer survivors. We address concerns that can come with survivorship like long-term effects of treatment as well as any social and psychological concerns.

Second Opinions Clinic: We offer second opinion consults with parents who have questions regarding their child’s initial diagnosis or treatment options.
