About Us - BayCare Alliant Hospital

BayCare Alliant Hospital is a 48-bed, long-term acute care hospital (LTCH) specializing in the treatment of patients with complex medical, rehabilitative, and respiratory needs. As a long term acute care hospital, BayCare Alliant Hospital accepts patients who are in need of treatment for diagnoses related to: cardiac care, complex medical/multi-system failures, infectious disease issues, rehabilitation needs, respiratory care, ventilator weaning, and wound care.

Patients in a long term acute care hospital are medically stable but fragile patients, requiring extended hospitalization and intensive nursing care. A typical patient stay at a long-term acute care hospital is 25 days or more, depending on the diagnosis and medical needs of the patient.

BayCare Alliant Hospital provides the diagnostic, medical treatment and rehabilitation services needed for patients requiring such an extended stay due to the complexity of their chronic disease or injury. Alliant offers a multi-disciplinary, family-centered approach to this extended care, with physicians, nursing and other health care specialists working together toward the best possible recovery for patients.

Adjacent to Mease Dunedin Hospital, BayCare Alliant Hospital is a 25,000-square-foot hospital, and is  referred to as "a hospital-in-a-hospital" or "HIH'". One of the many benefits of being admitted to BayCare Alliant LTCH (as opposed to a free standing LTCH) is the ease of access to any acute care service. Patients in BayCare Alliant can receive acute care intervention at Mease Dunedin Hospital, without ever leaving the main hospital building. And unlike freestanding LTCHs, Alliant Hospital has physician availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week through Mease Dunedin Hospital's Emergency Department.

As part of BayCare, BayCare Alliant is proud to be affiliated with some of Tampa Bay's largest and most prestigious acute care hospitals:

  • Morton Plant and Mease Hospitals in Pinellas and Pasco counties
  • St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg
  • St Joseph's Hospitals in Tampa, Lutz and Riverview
