Addiction is a chronic disease which affects approximately one in six Americans. The ongoing or frequent use of alcohol or drugs can cause a significant impact on a person’s life physically, mentally and/or socially. While symptoms of addiction may be different for each person, there are some common signs and symptoms:

  • Substances are used in large amounts and often over long periods of time
  • Continued use of drugs or alcohol despite experiencing negative consequences
  • Attempts to stop or lessen use of substances fail
  • Strong want or need to use the substance
  • Failure to handle usual responsibilities
  • Missing work or school
  • Home environment suffers including conflict with loved ones
  • Trouble understanding or relating to other people
  • Substance used in harmful or dangerous situations
  • Poor sleep, hygiene and eating habits
  • Change in appearance, personality or attitude
  • Keeping secrets or lying
  • Legal or financial problems

While there isn’t a cure for addiction, recovery is possible with treatment and long-term management of the disease. If you or a loved one is experiencing any of the signs or symptoms above, it is important to talk to a behavioral health professional for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

BayCare Addiction Services

BayCare Behavioral Health is here to assist youth and adults struggling with addiction and substance use disorders. BayCare provides comprehensive and individualized addiction treatment options for those experiencing signs and symptoms listed above related to opiate, alcohol, or other substance use.

BayCare offers a variety of resources and specialized services, so you and your loved ones can get help when you need it.

  • Detoxification and Crisis Stabilization
    Immediate detoxification, triage, stabilization and inpatient care provided for adults who are experiencing serious and acute substance use and/or mental health symptoms.
  • Residential Treatment-Community Recovery Center (CRC)
    CRC is a six- to nine-month treatment program for adults struggling with chronic substance use. This program uses a structured rehabilitation-oriented approach modeled known as a Therapeutic Community (TC).
  • Outpatient Programs
    BayCare’s outpatient program utilizes a harm-reduction approach which includes evaluation, treatment planning, individual and group therapy, access to Medication Assisted Treatment and Peer Recovery Support. In addition, BayCare offers programs for specialty populations including Veterans, child welfare involved families, criminal justice/diversion.

Medication-Assisted Treatment for Substance Use

BayCare Behavioral Health offers a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program for opiate and alcohol use. The program provides a pathway for recovery by administering buprenorphine or naltrexone, which help stabilize withdrawal symptoms to reduce or eliminate cravings for opioid and alcohol addictions.  BayCare’s MAT program does NOT provide methadone as a treatment option. Coordinated Opiate Recovery (CORe) Program

For those who have experienced an overdose in Hernando or Pasco Counties, BayCare’s CORe team works closely with Fire Rescue and Hospital emergency rooms to connect individuals and families with the treatment and community resources they need to help disrupt the cycle of addiction and overdose including BayCare addiction services, sober living assistance and transportation services for medical appointments.
