Preparing for Breast Cancer Surgery

At BayCare, your well-being is our primary concern and we will do all we can to ensure that your stay with us is as comfortable as possible. We know you will have a lot of questions about your upcoming breast surgery, so be sure to speak with your physicians and surgeons to make sure you have all the details you need to know about your procedure. You may also find details about preparing for surgery and patient information on the respective facility web page where you’re procedure will take place.

It's helpful to know that after breast surgery or radiation therapy, some women can experience a painful condition called lymphedema, which is caused by damaged lymph nodes or accumulation of fluid. BayCare offers relief and rehabilitation through drainage and compression therapy as well as education on skin care, remedial exercises and home care.

To speak with a certified lymphedema therapist in advance of your surgery, please call (813) 870-4877.
