The son of a family physician, Dr. Sourbeer grew up believing the practice of family medicine is the essence of being a "real doctor."

After graduating from medical school, Dr. Sourbeer joined his father in practice in Clearwater, FL. Later, they, along with six other physicians, formed the group practice Morton Plant Mease Primary Care (MPMPC). While serving as the group's Medical Director and President as it grew to more than 70 physicians in 35 locations in three counties, he simultaneously helped with the creation of the USF-MPM Family Medicine Residency. He also led the implementation of the electronic medical record for MPMPC. Dr. Sourbeer is a past President of the medical staff and past Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Morton Plant Hospital.

Dr. Sourbeer is responsible for the practice management, surgery and systems-based practice curricula – and he assists with the wilderness medicine track and AWLS certification. He strives to provide an exceptional curriculum in medical business and leadership skills, helping our graduates achieve their greatest potential. He takes particular pride in the residency's top marks for quality and efficiency that have been awarded by numerous review bodies that examine our outcome data.

Dr. Sourbeer's wife is a Pinellas County School Nurse, and they have a son and daughter. He enjoys camping, fishing, target shooting, travel and economic analysis.
