BayCare Welcomes Noted Radiation Oncologist

John Greskovich Jr., MD, MBA, a board-certified radiation oncologist, has joined BayCare to lead the integration and standardization of radiation therapy across the health system and its Cancer Institute. He also joins BayCare Medical Group, serving patients at St. Anthony’s Hospital Cancer Center and St. Joseph’s Hospitals Cancer Institute.
“This is a critically needed specialty,” said Tim McMahon, director of the BayCare Cancer Institute. “As the Institute continues to develop our system approach to care, Dr. Greskovich’s experience will enhance our progress in our four existing, accredited radiation therapy centers.”
BayCare’s radiation therapy centers are at St. Anthony’s in St. Petersburg, Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa and Winter Haven Hospital. All are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

He has a special interest in advanced radiation techniques such as intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), adaptive radiation therapy (ART), PET-guided radiotherapy, high dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), proton and particle therapy, and technology innovation.
Dr. Greskovich earned his Doctor of Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio. He completed graduate studies in biomedical and nuclear engineering with research in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy at The Ohio State University.
His interest in becoming a radiation oncologist began in graduate school, when a close friend developed a malignant brain tumor.
“I was present to support my close friend during her brain tumor treatment journey. I realized how vitally important a compassionate, radiation oncology caregiver team was for her emotional well-being during the six weeks of radiation treatments,” he said. “Being present and listening closely to my friend allowed her to feel heard and connected to her caregivers. This experience supporting my friend during the toughest time of her life solidified my aspiration to become a radiation oncologist.”
Following graduate studies, Dr. Greskovich completed his radiation oncology residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland and the Cleveland Clinic. He went on to complete a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Gamma Knife radiosurgery and thoracic oncology. As his leadership role at Cleveland Clinic advanced, he went on to complete an executive MBA in health care management at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
Dr. Greskovich said he is excited to join BayCare because of its mission and values to provide the best patient experience as well as BayCare’s investment in advanced technologies and innovation.
“It was important to me that BayCare is investing in the latest radiation technologies, such as proton therapy,” he said. “The mission and values and focusing on innovation and technology are the reasons I chose BayCare.”
Dr. Greskovich and his wife have five daughters, three of whom live with them in the Tampa Bay area. Dr. Greskovich enjoys staying busy, enjoying local and distant adventures with his wife and three daughters, swimming, cardio exercise, gardening and caring for his lawn.
