Match Day 2025 made one thing clear: new residents want to be part of BayCare’s pursuit of clinical excellence. All our BayCare-sponsored Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs received a 100% match for Match Day. More than 170 health care leaders of the future, including resident physicians and fellows, have joined us to make BayCare their GME home. This brings the total to nearly 300 doctors currently in BayCare Residency programs.

“We are thrilled to achieve a remarkable 100% match for our 12 BayCare-sponsored residency programs this year, including seven new programs. Choosing BayCare for their residency education ensures we can guide these students, who bring fresh perspectives about the latest medical innovations from the classroom. We are eager to welcome these resident physicians and support their educational journey,” said Chief Physician Executive Dr. Sowmya Viswanathan. “It is a necessary part of their training to advance their medical scholarship, and we are proud of how their presence will enrich BayCare’s research initiatives.”

Each year for Match Day, the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) shares residency and fellowship application results. The NRMP and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Electronic Residency Application System partner to ensure a standardized process to pair qualified candidates with residency programs.

The national physician shortage has been at critical levels since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, it is common for residents to practice in the communities where they are trained. Many of these residents are Floridians who feel a sense of responsibility to keep their fellow Floridians healthy. This is a vital reason BayCare began its GME journey five years ago. BayCare is proud to welcome and train these future health care innovators to carry our mission forward and contribute to a legacy of clinical excellence in the communities that trust us with their care.
