South Florida Baptist Hospital to Host Community Preview Event on April 21
South Florida Baptist Hospital (SFBH) will give community members a first look inside its new state-of-the-art facility in Plant City, Florida, during a community preview event on Sunday, April 21, from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
The new $326 million facility located off exit 22 on Interstate 4, is the newest of BayCare’s 16 hospitals throughout West Central Florida. The 424,000 square foot hospital replaces the current South Florida Baptist Hospital on Alexander Street which was built more than 70 years ago.
“South Florida Baptist Hospital has a long history of serving the residents of Plant City and our surrounding areas,” said SFBH President Karen Kerr. “Building this new hospital means we will have the capacity to continue serving the health care needs of our growing and dynamic community.”
The new hospital, which is expected to open mid-May, will be substantially larger than the current 250,000 square foot legacy facility. It will feature 146 private patient rooms, include an 85,000 square foot medical arts building and employ more than 800 team members and 250 physicians. Areas of specialization include general surgery, orthopedic surgery, urology, imaging, cardiac catheterization, emergency care and labor/delivery.
During the April 21 event, community members can take self-guided tours through designated areas such as the emergency department and the 26-bed intensive care unit. Guests can also tour one of the eight operating rooms in the new surgery center or one of the seven new labor and delivery suites.
“We’re excited to give people an opportunity to preview the new hospital,” added Kerr. “There has been a lot of interest and support from the community since we broke ground in October 2021. We’ve worked hard to bring this project to fruition amid much anticipation. We are looking forward to finally opening our doors for all to see.”
In addition to self-guided tours, guests attending the community preview event can also enjoy the pop-up health village in the hospital’s parking lot. Hospital representatives will be available on-site to answer questions and provide information on hospital services. The Community Health Wellness on Wheels bus will be on hand, along with the St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital Wellness and Safety Center and Pediatric Transport Team for information on pediatric services.
The new South Florida Baptist Hospital community preview event will be held at 3202 N. Park Rd., Plant City, FL 33563. To register for the event, use this link.
