In selecting the St. Anthony’s Olympic and Sprint triathlons to its Best of 2024 list, Triathlete magazine mentioned the event's scenic course which features beautiful homes, palm trees and Tampa Bay.

The St. Anthony’s Triathlon, a premier three-race event marking its’ 41st year in 2024, has been named to lists of the top Olympic- and Sprint-distance and beginner triathlons in the United States by Triathlete magazine.

Registration continues for the event, which is slated for April 26-28. The event already has been designated the 2024 Florida State Championship Race by USA Triathlon.

The magazine selected St. Anthony’s Olympic- and Sprint-distance races for its 2024 Best Races in the United States east region. Three races each in the east, west, central and mountain regions were chosen for the honor.

“St. Anthony’s is the perfect way to kick off the race season in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida,” the magazine said. “This race comes with all the trappings of a large event like a race expo, pre-race (racks for bikes), post-race food, athlete tracker, and hundreds of cheering spectators.”

In the same regions, the magazine recognized the Meek & Mighty Triathlon, the event held the day before the longer-distance races, as one of the Best Beginner Races in the United States. “You might be familiar with St. Anthony’s Triathlon … but if you aren’t ready for the full course, try their Meek & Mighty Triathlon the day prior,” the magazine said, which added that a bonus of the event are the clinics held for youth and novice adult participants.

“This is an amazing honor for all of our events to be selected for these impressive lists,” said Patrick McGee, the Triathlon’s manager and race director. “We are fortunate to offer athletes of all abilities, from beginners to professional triathletes, quality courses that are nationally recognized.”

The Meek & Mighty Triathlon was named one of 2024’s Best Beginner Events by Triathlete magazine.

The Triathlon was voted the second-best triathlon in the United States in a 2023 USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Award contest, is marking its 41st year in 2024.

Triathlete magazine, which bills itself as “the resource for performance-driven triathletes who want to train smarter, race faster, and achieve their highest potential,” is published six times a year in print and every day online.

In its first year, the Triathlon welcomed about 600 athletes to swim, bike and run along the scenic waterfront and through the picturesque neighborhoods of St. Petersburg. The Triathlon now hosts thousands of individual athletes and dozens of relay teams over the course of the event.

The three-day St. Anthony’s Triathlon Weekend includes:

  • The Olympic-Distance Triathlon, set for Sunday, April 28, is known for its talented professional field.
  • The Sprint Triathlon, also on April 28, features shorter distances than the Olympic-distance race along the same course.
  • The Meek & Mighty Triathlon, on Saturday, April 27, is a race for novice adults and children who are new to the sport of triathlon. The pool swim kicks off the race which finishes with a bike ride and run around downtown St. Petersburg.

The Sunday events are scheduled to feature a swim in Tampa Bay; a bike ride that takes athletes by high rises and into quiet neighborhoods that bustle with excitement as athletes whiz by; and a run through one of St. Petersburg’s oldest neighborhoods.

The weekend also includes the St. Anthony’s Triathlon Sports & Fitness Expo, a showcase of the latest equipment for multisport athletes, workshops for athletes to prepare for the events and information tables featuring various St. Anthony’s Hospital and BayCare services.
