Morton Plant Mease Offering Holiday Bereavement Programs

When you have lost a loved one, festivities surrounding the holidays often magnify your grief. Having strategies in place can be helpful. To that end, the Morton Plant Mease bereavement program is offering a “Survivor’s Guide to the Holidays.’’

Join Morton Plant Mease chaplains for an online educational program to:

  • Explore ways to navigate the holidays following your loss.
  • Learn about the grieving process and how to care for yourself.
  • Find support among people who care and understand.

The program is open to team members and community members as space allows. Sessions will be offered four times:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 10: 2 - 3:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 11: 6:30 - 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov.17: 6:30 - 8 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov.19: 2 - 3:30 p.m.

Register at mpmbereavement@baycare.org or call (727) 462-7995. When you register, indicate the date you prefer. After registering, you will receive a link for the session, along with instructions for signing in.

In addition, the bereavement program has just launched a quarterly “Grief Matters’’ newsletter for families that have experienced the loss of a loved one at one of our hospitals. This is a means of offering support in a new way during these challenging times of social distancing.

“BayCare’s commitment to quality care extends well beyond the hospital stay, to those who are grieving, especially in the first year following a loss,” said Rebecca Bass, bereavement coordinator. “We have adapted our holiday grief support programs to occur virtually while also publishing a newsletter for those who are served better this way.’’

Special thanks to the Morton Plant Mease Health Care Foundation for helping to make these programs possible.
