St. Anthony’s Hospital Invites Community to Health Seminars

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., (Feb. 7, 2018) – St. Anthony’s Hospital invites the community to attend health seminars in March that include heart-healthy screenings, managing dementia-related behaviors, identifying and treating acid reflux, smoking cessation classes and weight loss surgery talks. There also will be free memory screenings. The monthly seminars are free to the public.

Heart-Healthy Screening
Tuesday, March 6
8 a.m.-2 p.m.
St. Anthony’s Hospital Auditorium, Ground Floor, 1200 Seventh Ave. N, St. Petersburg

The screening will include blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI) and cholesterol, as well as assess your risk for diabetes.* Fasting is not required. However, the blood test results will be more accurate if you fast. Pre-registration is required by calling toll-free 1-855-269-4777.

* An A1c test will be offered only if the pre-diabetes risk assessment is high.

Weight Loss Surgery Information

Managing Dementia-Related Behaviors

Learn to decode behavioral messages and identify common behavior triggers with Amanda Wood, the Alzheimer’s Association program specialist. Participants also will be given strategies to help with common dementia challenges.

Smoking Cessation Class

This two-hour class provides valuable tools to help you quit using tobacco including coping with cravings and physical and emotional symptoms. The class includes free aids to help you quit using tobacco while supplies last.

Identify and Treat Acid Reflux

Learn the signs and symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) from Abhitabh Patil, MD. Participants will learn the importance of treating GERD early to avoid long-term complications.
