St. Joseph’s Hospital Breaks Ground on $126 Million Expansion Project

TAMPA, Fla., (April 18, 2017) – St. Joseph’s Hospital, which last month was named one of the country’s top hospitals by Watson Health, now has started work on a $126 million expansion. When completed in late 2019, the hospital will feature a beautiful covered entry, 90 new private patient rooms, a pedestrian bridge and more.

“This project offers something for everyone,” said St. Joseph’s Hospital President Kimberly Guy. “Patients will appreciate the comfortable new rooms, our staff is excited about having a bridge to connect us with St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital across the street, and those who simply pass by will enjoy the new look that updates our 1960-something exterior.” 

Construction officially began today with a groundbreaking ceremony; completion is expected by the end of next year.

“The Franciscan Sisters of Allegany founded this hospital on compassion and public service nearly 85 years ago. From preventive care to complex treatments, from infancy to adulthood, from generation to generation, St. Joseph’s Hospital has always supported its neighbors with quality care,” Guy said. “We are thrilled to continue that mission with this expansion, which will allow us to better meet the needs of our growing community.”

St. Joseph’s Hospital expansion details:

• New six-story tower
  • Two-story lobby with drive-up front entrance, as well as waiting and on-call rooms
  • Three patient care floors with 30 private patient rooms per floor
  • Connecting bridge to St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital across Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd
  • One floor for mechanical support
  • Connection to the existing main tower at floors 1, 2, 5 and the basement
