Changes to Rock the Ribbon

November 21, 2017

10K canceled, 5K moved to 6 p.m.

CLEARWATER, Fla., (November 21, 2017) -- Race officials for the Morton Plant Mease Health Care Foundation’s “Rock the Ribbon” event scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1 have decided to make some changes to the race due to road and traffic conditions. Originally planned as a 5K and 10K race, “Rock the Ribbon” will now be a 5K race and the 10K portion of the race has been canceled. The race start time remains at 6 p.m., starting with the 5K. The Kids Dash has been moved to 7 p.m. and will be held within the event venue on the campus of Morton Plant Hospital.

The race originally scheduled for Sept. 15 had to be moved to Dec. 1 because of Hurricane Irma. “We have worked closely with local law enforcement including the Clearwater Police Department and determined that at this time of year, it was in the best interest of our competitors to change the race to a 5K event only,” said Susan Daniels, race director for Rock the Ribbon. Lighting will be available on the 5K course.

Runners who have registered for the 10K can be transferred to the 5K and are being contacted. 10K participants may request a refund. “We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause to our racers,” said Daniels.

Rock the Ribbon will feature live music along the course, games and other activities for kids and post-race refreshments.

Additional information will be posted on the Morton Plant Mease Health Care Foundation Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/MPMFoundation/, and the website http://www.rock-the-ribbon.org/

The Morton Plant Mease Health Care Foundation hosts the event, which is presented by Urology Specialists of West Florida, to benefit the prostate and breast cancer programs of Morton Plant Mease.
