BayCare Health System Names New CFO

June 29, 2017

Clearwater, Fla., (June 29, 2017) – BayCare Health System announced today that Vice President for Finance Janice Polo has been promoted to executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Polo has been with BayCare, a West Central Florida not-for-profit with 14 hospitals and 26,900 employees, for more than 28 years. She had served as interim CFO since the departure of former CFO John Gantner in February.

BayCare President and CEO Tommy Inzina said Polo is a highly skilled finance executive who is committed to BayCare’s mission and whose integrity is beyond question.

“Janice has been instrumental in the success of BayCare,” Inzina said. “Under her leadership, we have developed a world-class finance organization. It was her leadership that led us to abandon the traditional budgeting model for the rolling forecast methodology we use now.”

Polo, a CPA, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of South Florida in 1986. She worked as a cost accountant for two years before being hired in finance at St. Joseph’s Health Care, which became part of BayCare when the health system was created in 1997. In 1999, she was promoted to BayCare’s director of finance, and in 2010 was named vice president of finance.

While director of finance, Polo established a Shared Service Center to centralize the system’s financial functions.

As vice president of finance, Polo worked to increase efficiency and sharpen processes as the health system grew. She streamlined the audit process and led the system’s transition away from traditional annual budgeting to quarterly rolling forecasts, an innovation completed in 2014.

“I am humbled by the trust that is being placed in me to serve as the CFO,” Polo said. “BayCare is a financially strong organization that provides great care in our communities. I am excited that I will be in a position to help secure our future in carrying out our mission.”
