Morton Plant North Bay's Former Main Entrance to Permanently Close

Entrance Off of Madison Street to Close February 21

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla., (February 9, 2017) - Morton Plant North Bay’s former main entrance off of Madison Street will permanently close on February 21. Signage has been installed to direct patients and visitors to the new main entrance, which opened Dec. 12.

The new main entrance is located on the north side of the hospital, between the Starkey Tower and the Medical Arts Building, and can be accessed from Madison Street through the entry into the parking lot.

Designed with features to welcome patients and visitors, the new main entrance includes a canopy and patient drop off lane, new vestibule, lobby and new gift shop.

The entrance relocation is part of the hospital’s two-year, $24.7 million expansion and renovation that will add 13,925 square feet to the campus, with the main focus being a new emergency department. Upon completion, the new emergency department will provide 28 private treatment rooms, an increase from the existing 18. A 15-bed unit also will be built to assist with patient flow for those who require additional observation or monitoring.

The contractor is Wehr Constructors, Inc., and Gresham, Smith and Partners are the architects.

Morton Plant North Bay Hospital has been expanding to a modern community-based medical complex since 2010, when the hospital opened the four-story, 56,000 square-foot Starkey Medical Tower with all new private patient rooms and a three-story, 45,000 square-foot Medical Arts Building.

In 2013 the hospital opened a new surgical center featuring six larger, integrated operating suites, which added 25,000 square feet to the hospital. That followed the addition of a new 9,750 square-foot cardiovascular center in 2011.

In August, the Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital, specializing in neurological and orthopedic inpatient rehabilitation, completed a two-year renovation and expansion to 30 new private patient rooms and additional space for patient treatment and therapy, larger gym space, a training apartment and an outside course featuring different walking surfaces.
