BayCare to Expand Three Hospitals in Hillsborough County

St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital-North and St. Joseph’s Hospital-South to Increase in Size, Number of Medical Specialties

TAMPA, Fla., (Dec. 21, 2017) – BayCare Health System is investing $308 million into the Hillsborough County community with the expansion of three of its hospitals: St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, St. Joseph’s Hospital-North in Lutz and St. Joseph’s Hospital-South in Riverview. All three projects have been approved or are in the approval process by city and county planning officials, with construction beginning next year and completion expected by the end of 2020.

St. Joseph’s Hospital plans include a new six-story tower with: two-story lobby with drive-up front entrance, as well as waiting and on-call rooms; three patient care floors with 30 private patient rooms per floor; one floor for mechanical support; connection to the existing main tower at floors 1, 2, 5 and the basement; and a connecting bridge to St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital across Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Capital cost: ~$126 million. Estimated completion: December 2019.

At St. Joseph’s Hospital-North, the project includes: two additional patient care floors with 54 private patient rooms per floor; build-out of four existing shelled operating-room suites; and expansion/relocation of ancillary services to support increased patient volumes. Capital cost: ~$70 million. Estimated completion: August 2019.

St. Joseph’s Hospital-South’s two-phase expansion includes: (Phase 1) new five-story building; 25-bed emergency department expansion with CT, x-ray and ultrasound as well as an 18-bed observation unit; build-out of one existing shelled operating room and one existing shelled catheterization lab; and additional space reserved for future growth. Phase 2 includes: build-out of two additional medical/surgical floors; addition of NICU and pediatric services with 10 NICU, 12 pediatric and 12 pediatric progressive care unit patient rooms; 36 medical/surgical patient rooms; and expansion, relocation and renovation of ancillary spaces. Capital cost: ~$74 million (Phase 1) and ~$38 million (Phase 2). Estimated Completion: April 2019 (Phase 1) and December 2020 (Phase 2).
