Sleep and Performance Expert James Maas, PhD, is Keynote Speaker
CLEARWATER, Fla. (April 5, 2017) – BayCare Health System sports medicine experts will join with a noted sleep and performance expert to offer strategies to help everyday athletes achieve their goals at the 2017 BayCare Sports Medicine Conference,
Awaken Your Inner Athlete. The conference, which is a BayCare effort to connect athletes of all abilities to the health care information they need to help support their health and fitness goals, will be held on
Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the Hilton St. Petersburg – Carillon Park, 950 Lake Carillon Drive, St. Petersburg.
James Maas, PhD, who in his 48 years at Cornell University was the Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow, chairman of psychology and a professor, will be the keynote speaker. He is the author of Power Sleep, Sleep for Success, Sleep to Win! and the upcoming book, Sleep Made Simple. Maas will present Sleep to Win! Everything You Must Know About Sleep but are Too Tired to Ask, which will draw from his years of research on sleep and how it affects athletic performance.
In addition to Dr. Maas, BayCare sports medicine experts will help participants learn the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to identify proper health regiments and treat sports injuries. Other featured physician speakers include cardiologist Augustine Agocha, MD; Sanjay Menon, MD, an orthopedic surgeon who is team orthopedic surgeon for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; and Kevin Elder, MD, a specialist in sports medicine. Participants also will hear about proper nutrition, overcoming injuries and the importance of strength training.
Registration fees are $35 for adults and $50 for physicians and health care professionals who are seeking continuing education credits. Registration includes all sessions, a continental breakfast and lunch. An estimated 4.75 continuing education credits (CEUs) and continuing medical education credits (CMEs) will be offered to health professionals for attending the conference.
