Mitchell Rehab Hospital Renovations Complete

October 12, 2016

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla., (October 12, 2016) -- Morton Plant North Bay’s Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital has finished the final phases on its renovations with 30 private rooms completed. In addition, the Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). This is the sixth consecutive, three-year accreditation awarded by CARF to the inpatient rehabilitation program which remains the only CARF-accredited facility in Pasco and Hernando counties.

“This accreditation is the hallmark of quality. It is given to only those rehabilitation programs that through a rigorous review process, demonstrate that the program’s services provide the highest quality patient care,” said Mike Yungmann, Morton Plant North Bay president.

Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital, specializing in neurological and orthopedic inpatient rehabilitation, recently completed a renovation and expansion project. Upon completion in August, the facility will offer 30 private patient rooms, additional space for patient treatment and therapy, larger gym space, a training apartment and an outside course featuring different walking surfaces.

“The new facility provides a level of care that plays a key role in patients' recovery from strokes, joint replacement surgery, and more,” said Yungmann.

The rehabilitation hospital’s enhanced gym space is for acute patients who receive three-to-five hours of physical, occupational and speech therapy a day. The training apartment is fully equipped with appliances and furniture to help patients with re-learning daily activities such as laundry, dishes, making their bed, preparing meals and personal care. A large multi-purpose space is ideal for group activities and family visits. The outside course gives therapists “real life” surfaces such a brick, mulch, stonework and curbs to train patients to walk.
