St. Anthony’s Sports Medicine Experts Help Runners Avoid Injuries, Learn Benefits of Massage

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 24, 2015) – St. Anthony’s Hospital sports medicine experts will help runners learn how to avoid dehydration and common injuries while discovering the benefits of massage in speeding recovery during the seminar, Running Injuries and Dehydration, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1 at St. Anthony’s Outpatient Center (Carillon), Conference Rooms A & B, 900 Carillon Parkway, St. Petersburg.

Join Koco Eaton, MD, orthopedic surgeon and team physician for the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Rowdies, to learn how to prevent common running injuries, such as stress fractures, hamstring strains, shin splints, plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis.

During the lecture, licensed massage therapist Bryan Thomas will discuss how sports massage can keep athletes active by helping to reduce muscle soreness and speeding recovery time. Massage also can help to loosen tight muscles before or after a run. Following his discussion, registered dietitian Charlotte Mapes will offer key tips on how to maintain proper hydration during workouts.
