St. Anthony’s Breast Center Again Receives NAPBC Designation

National Accreditation Signals Quality Treatment, Care for Breast Cancer

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., (Feb. 20, 2014) – St. Anthony Hospital’s Susan Sheppard McGillicuddy Breast Center and its comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer has once again been recognized by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). The Breast Center has received a three-year accreditation and is the only hospital in St. Petersburg with a breast health program that has been designated by the NAPBC.

“We are truly dedicated to our patients and their needs before, during and after diagnosis and treatment. This accreditation shows our commitment to provide women with the latest comprehensive breast care services to meet their medical, physical and emotional needs,” said Claudia Bundschu, M.D., radiologist and medical director of the breast center. “The NAPBC accreditation is one that is highly regarded in the medical community due to its rigorous standards.”

Only those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a strict evaluation process and review of their performance receive NAPBC accreditation. The standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.

Receiving care at an NAPBC-accredited center ensures that a patient will have access to:

  • Comprehensive care, including a full range of the latest services
  • A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options for individual patients
  • Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
  • Quality breast care close to home

Offering a multidisciplinary breast care program, the center provides clinical and support services, from screening and diagnosis to treatment and counseling. A team of specialized clinicians, a radiologist and a patient care navigator work closely together to provide coordinated care to address the individual breast health needs and concerns of each patient.

The Susan Sheppard McGillicuddy Breast Center at St. Anthony’s Hospital is the only facility in St. Petersburg with both the NAPBC accreditation and the Breast Center of Excellence designation from the American College of Radiology (ACR).
