Hospitals of Morton Plant Mease Receive 2014 Women’s Choice Awards

CLEARWATER, Fla., (February 14, 2014) - Mease Countryside Hospital, Morton Plant Hospital and Mease Dunedin Hospital have all received a 2014 Women’s Choice Award from WomenCertified®. Mease Countryside Hospital is recognized again on the Best Hospitals for Heart Care list for a second year. Morton Plant Hospital also earns a spot two years in a row for Best Hospitals for Obstetrics. Mease Dunedin Hospital is recognized this year on the 2014 Best Hospitals for Emergency Care list.

“Being named as a Women’s Choice hospital is an honor, knowing that women in our community have had positive experiences in our hospitals and would recommend our facilities to others,” says Lou Galdieri, president of Mease Countryside and Mease Dunedin hospitals. “Caring for our patients is a top priority, and being recognized demonstrates our commitment to providing quality patient-care experiences.”

A Women’s Choice Award identifies a hospital for meeting the high standards regarding women’s needs and preferences for health care services with a unique scoring process that focuses on female patient satisfaction with clinical excellence, physician communications, responsiveness of nurses and support staff, and hospital cleanliness. The goal of the survey done by WomenCertified® is to provide a national list of hospitals to assist women with making smarter hospital choices and utilizing trusted referrals from other women.

Last year, Morton Plant Hospital and Morton Plant North Bay Hospital were also recognized with Mease Countryside Hospital on the 2013 list for Best Hospitals for Heart Care. The heart program at the hospitals of Morton Plant Mease offers exceptional, nationally-renowned cardiovascular care with the latest technological breakthroughs backed by an expert team of cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons, cardiologists, and a cardiac support team.

Mease Countryside Hospital provides an emergency cardiac center to offer elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) – a minimally invasive heart procedure also known as angioplasty; and also provides emergency angioplasties for patients experiencing the most critical type of heart attack – an ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Morgan Heart Hospital at Morton Plant Hospital offers the new transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure for patients with severe aortic stenosis and is home to the largest hybrid operative suite in the Tampa Bay area. Morton Plant Hospital is the only heart hospital in the country to be recognized for 13 consecutive years on the Thomson Reuters’ Top 50 U.S. Hospitals List for cardiovascular services.

Morton Plant Mease Women’s Services has received “Baby-Friendly” status from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for both Morton Plant and Mease Countryside hospitals. Morton Plant Hospital provides a Level II neonatal unit, water birth delivery option, board-certified lactation consultants, and several educational classes and support groups.

Mease Dunedin Hospital’s Harris Emergency Room has received the highest patient satisfaction scores of any emergency department in the BayCare Health System for the past three years. The 17,000-square-foot facility provides expert care by board-certified physicians and highly-trained nurses and support team.
