The Winter Haven Hospital orthopedic program is designed to help patients achieve the highest level of function possible through state-of-the-art technology, an experienced team of physicians and therapists, and personalized treatment protocols from pre-surgical testing to rehabilitation.
Total Joint Replacement Program
Our total joint replacement program includes board-certified surgeons, a newly-renovated recovery unit with private patient rooms in a calming environment, out-patient rehabilitation services, and patient-centered education. Our patient care team, lead by joint replacement program medical director Samuel Messieh, MD, focuses on quality, compassionate care and smooth recoveries.

Orthopedic Services
Winter Haven Hospital’s orthopedic services include a wide range of surgical and nonsurgical options to help improve mobility and treat a number of issues, including:
- Fractures
- Arthritis and osteoarthritis
- ACL injuries
- Neck pain
- Knee pain
- Hip pain
- Tendonitis
- Bursitis
- Shoulder pain
Patient and Caregiver Education
Prior to surgery, a free total joint replacement class is offered for patients and their families to increase their knowledge of total joint replacement, prepare for surgery and learn about the recovery process. This class is offered every Thursday, from 12:30 to 2pm. Registration for this class is required.
Following joint replacement surgery and prior to discharge from the hospital, family members and caregivers of patients are invited to attend a free class to review key items to guide patients through the recovery process. Caregivers are encouraged to attend this class during their friend or loved one’s hospital stay. This class is offered Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday from 9 to 10:30am. Registration for this class is not required.

Outpatient Rehabilitation
Winter Haven Hospital’s Outpatient Rehabilitation Services offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology and neuropsychological services for persons with sports injuries, musculoskeletal injuries or dysfunction, postsurgical orthopedic limitations, pelvic floor disorders, neurological conditions, cognitive deficits, swallowing and voice dysfunction, spinal cord injuries, emotional/behavioral problems associated with a medical condition, and other diagnoses which could benefit from therapy. The Outpatient Rehabilitation Program is CARF-accredited. A referral/prescription from a Florida-licensed physician is required for treatment to begin.
