High Risk Obstetrics
St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital knows that a complicated pregnancy can be both upsetting and stressful. That’s why our 24-bed High-Risk Maternity Unit is dedicated to taking care of women experiencing health challenges during pregnancy, premature labor or similar conditions that require hospital bed rest. This special unit offers a home-like environment equipped with comfortable amenities.
The unit is staffed with physicians and nurses trained to focus on your special needs. Other members of our health care team available to you during your stay include social services, pastoral care, dietitians, lactation consultants and respiratory, physical and occupational therapists. Perinatologists (physicians with advanced high-risk pregnancy training) are available 24 hours a day for consultations with your primary care physician. And neonatologists from our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) are also available to assist families with information regarding newborns with exceptional needs.
Other services available to high-risk moms include:
- GetWellNetwork with an extensive movie library of educational videos
- Music therapy to enhance sense of well-being thanks to a skilled harpist
- Reading materials
- Weekly support/education group meetings
- WiFi internet service
- Venue for your baby shower, birthday party, holiday meal or special occasion; we provide the venue (our classrooms), and you provide the food, supplies, setup and cleanup.
Visitors are welcome 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but the patient may choose to limit her visitors and her visitation hours. Children may also visit, but must be accompanied by an adult other than yourself. If you wish, your support person may spend the night with you as well. A support person may be present at all times except in circumstances where his/her presence infringes on others' rights, safety, or a doctor's orders.
