What can I expect during my total joint replacement surgery?
Our Pre-Operative Total Joint Replacement Class will give you the helpful information you need for before, during and after joint replacement surgery, including:
- Planning at home before surgery - discover how to prepare yourself and your family, arrange and organize your home and how to obtain special equipment you may need for recovery.
- How to prepare for surgery - find out more about pre-operative testing, your primary care physician visit, what items to bring with you to the hospital during your stay as well as pre-operative instructions and restrictions.
- What to expect during your hospital stay - learn about your surgery, where you should check in on the day of surgery and what to expect before, during and after surgery at St. Anthony's Hospital.
- How to prepare for discharge from the hospital – review discharge instructions and restrictions as well as home health care and physical therapy to help you with a successful recovery.
Classes are held every Wednesday from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at St. Anthony's Hospital, and lunch is provided. Call (727) 820-7789 to save your spot for one of our Total Joint Replacement Classes.
If you can’t join us for our in-person class, a Virtual Total Joint Replacement Class is available for you to access the information at your convenience.

After joint replacement surgery, how long until I’m able to walk?After surgery, most patients walk within a couple of hours. With the help of our physical therapy teams, 99 percent of patients are walking within 24 hours of their surgery.
